Ava’s Film Portfolio

2013-2023

About me!

I am a 21-year-old aspiring filmmaker interested in directing, cinematography, and editing. I am intrigued by documentaries, coming-of-age films, and activism work.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and minor in Philosophy from the University of Oregon. I embarked on a visual concentration in journalism to explore my true passion of filmmaking.

I self-taught myself on a Canon Rebel T3i and Final Cut Pro at 13 years old. While at university, I improved my skills on a variety of cameras and Adobe Creative Suite.

Houseless in Eugene: A Search for Remedy

This short documentary was created in my J421 Documentary Production class. I fully produced, filmed, and edited this piece with the help of some clips provided by my professor.

I examined the houseless issue in Eugene, OR and took a look inside some of the efforts meant to alleviate the problem and hopefully find remedy for impacted individuals.

Small Projects

Henna 2023: In this short, hobby video, I interviewed Reaiah Kapadia and learned about her experiences with henna and its cultural significance.

The Main Event: Getting Ready 2023: Kaitlyn Tuck and her sorority sisters love living together and getting ready for a formal is an intimate, loving moment between friends. I spent hours watching her process and being immersed in her roommates’ friendships.

Chi Omega Bid Day 2021: Short and fun montage documenting a special day for the new members!

Sports Marketing 2018-2019

My high school did not have many opportunities in the film realm, so I joined the Trojan Pride Sports Marketing team as VP of videography to showcase my filming and editing skills.

I attended games, meetings, and filmed and edited weekly promos for the Instagram and Twitter pages.

My YouTube Channel (2013-present)

I started my YouTube channel at 11 years old to express my love for makeup, fashion, and overall lifestyle. At the time, I dreaded the filming and editing process, which typically took over 12 hours. I worked my way up from an iPad and iMovie to eventually using my first camera, the Canon Rebel T3i and Final Cut Pro. At 13 years old, I purchased my camera with money earned from YouTube and self-taught myself FCP.

As I grew up and my love for makeup and fashion phased in and out, my appreciation towards videography blossomed. My skills and speed improved, but I still cherished the hours I spent creating a project in order to witness the final result.

I owe my YouTube channel to discovering what my true passion is, despite how cringe and embarrassing my videos may appear at times.
